What is a Senior?

When I looked up “what is a senior” in Wikipedia, nothing came up. The search for ‘senior citizen’ did not exist but produced a couple of interesting facts. The British usage of the phrase is OAP which stands for Old Age Pensioner and social sciences prefer “older adults”. The word “Senior” is an American usage and is short for senior citizen. Other online resources will show different ages for the older population depending on what benefits or services are being searched. My favorite one is the U.S. Census Bureau. Median age of the U.S. population is 37.9 which makes anyone 38-plus on the “senior side” of the population. That puts 3 of my 4 children in the same category as me! Gotta love that!

Being a senior does not define who you are. My dad never called himself a senior and so never stepped foot in a local Senior Center.  He enjoyed his life after retirement and was always planning his next adventure.

Social Butterfly?

Social butterfly?  It may not be your “kind of thing” but socializing with other people is essential for a healthy life. I never put too much thought to this until this past year. Places have been opening up again and we are finally seeing, talking and laughing face-to-face with family and friends.

Do you know what you want to do or where you want to be in a year from now?  How about in two to five years? Have you retired or thinking about retiring? How about semi-retirement? These are hard questions that I ponder with and can not come up with an answer.
